8500GT lag issue

hi

i have an 8500Gt 512MB DDR2 graphics card. Sometimes when i run a game a high pitched noise starts to come from the VGA and everything lags. This happens only in some games. I can play Call of duty 6 with very high specs and can't play battlefield 2 with even the lowest specs, caus the sound starts to come and everything lags. This happens in Crysis, not in Warhead though, GTA4, Mass Effect, Farcry 2 etc. I even have the drivers updated and everything.

What power supply do you have? The high pitched noise is usually associated with a power supply and not a video card. Are you running this off a low wattage OEM PSU? That could potentially be the issue. The 8500GT is not a gaming card, and if this is in a lowend system it could be straining your PSU if for example it is a 250W oem PSU.

mine's a 195W PSU...does this mean i hav to buy a new one?

You're lucky your PSU hasn't blown up already. I would efinetly recommend getting a newer, quality unit. That high pitched noise is likely caused by your PSU which is basically crying out in pain

8500GT is a low budget, low power card from 3 generations again. You really can't play GTA4 or FarCry2 with decent settings, and definitely not Crysis. If you have a standard ATX case, I suggest you upgrade that PSU and your graphics card.

Like the others said, that noise means your PSU is over-stressed or dying.

If you have around $400, you can build yourself an entirely new system that can run those games pretty well. (you can also sell your current system for $100-$150 for funds)

How is that possible?

An 8600GT can barely run Crysis at mainstream settings and that is 30-40% better than an 8500GT. Typically, I think an 8800GT (which is 12 tiers above the 8500GT, and so at least 400-500% better) is the minimum required to run Crysis at "gamer settings..."

What is your resolution and fps?

Are you sure what you have is an 8500?

yep definitely sure , caus that's says on the box [ASUS EN 8500GT MAGIC]
and my fps is usualy around 40 while in 800X600 resolution (ingame)

Alrite, i got a new PSU, still getting that damn noise and the stupid lag spikes
