8500m/8700m? confused.. please help.

Thinking about buying a laptop and it says it has an 8500/8700 GPU. My question is... Which is it lol?

I've done some googling and no luck. Thanks.

Are you looking at a specific model laptop, or a range of configurations?

Often in a line they can use a higher power (8700m) or lower power (8500m) GPU in the same chassis - so for the range of configurations they will say it has an 8500m/8700m (if those are the two options).

Alternatively AMD has blurred the lines with their integrated GPU's working in crossfire with a discrete GPU - so the 8500m could be the integrated graphics only and 8700m performance level when using both... but this is just a stab in the dark. I do not know what models/numbers/etc can do this.

It's a dell I spiron 17 with a i7-3537u that I'm buying from someone. It says it has a 8500/8700 with 2 g of memory.

Can anyone explain what this even means lol? I've googled 8500/8700 and it only turns up with people asking this same question; (whadafuxisit)

I'd really appreciate an answer because this "GPU" isn't even listed in the dell website or amd.
