Hello,

I have an Inspiron 8600 running WinXP SP2. It came with an Intel
Pro/Wireless LAN 2100 3A mini
PCI adapter. This card is 802.11b capable only and mounts internally. It's
accessible from the bottom of the laptop. I also have a wireless router
which is 802.11g capable. In order to get higher connection speeds, I
disabled the Intel adapter card and added a Linksys PCMCIA 802.1g adapter
card. What I'd like to do is to replace the Intel card with an 802.11g PCI
adapter. This would free up the PCMCIA slot. But, looking at the Intel card,
it mentions that only 'qualified service personnel' should mess with this
card. So I'm wondering if I try to swap this card out if it would void my
warranty?

Also, the laptop only has 2 USB ports. Is there a PCMCIA USB expansion card
available which would give me 2 or 3 more USB ports?

Thanks,
Tony

A mini-PCI card will work fine and should be simple to install.

You don't need more USB2 ports. Just get a powered USB2 hub. You can
daisychain as many as you need.
