My OC at the moment is 4.7ghz with 1.260v and max temp of %85 using prime95 but usually stays around 50-65%. My question is do i lower the volts more? because at times it will jump to 1.270-1.280(usually stays at 1.260.
also i tried OC to 5ghz with 1.290 and got a black screen? i got scared so decided to stay at 4.7ghz . should i give it another go?
My specs
z370p d3/noctua dh15/8600k
NEW TO OVERCLOCKING

Solution
How high you can OC depends on your luck at getting a god chip.
Virtually all can go to 4.7.
Here are some statistics:
as of 3/22/2018
What % of I5-8600k chips can oc
at a agressive vcore of 1.4 or so and delidded
4.9 96%
5.0 85%
5.1 66%
5.2 38%
5.3 13%

Do not worry too much about temperatures.
The cpu will throttle or shut off by itself if it detects a dangerous temperature.
That is around 100c.
Max of 85c is fine.
You are good.
1.3v is fine, you can even approach 1.4v if your multiplier requires it.
What you do in a stress test will not mirror what you do in everyday work, even under load.
If you implement speedstep and adaptive voltage, your multiplier and the vcore will be reduced when the spu is not under load.

hey thanks for the reply!
so should i keep my 4.7? i don't get whole temperature thing but i am getting a max of 85c but cores usually stay around 50-65c at 1.260v, should i be scared? its passing all the test fine wont go over 85c does not turn yellow. if i try going to 5ghz 1.320v would it over heat since the 4.7 runs at max 85c?
