F2A88XM-D3H is Rev 3.1 and on gigabytes website it seems to be able to run this chip.

The chip is a 860k. Bought the mobo and chip from someone used and I've been working with him for the past day trying to trouble shoot.

Ram is corsair vengeance 2133 2x4gb sticks. Tried the ram in slots 1/2 and 3/4 and just 1 stick in 1.

4 case fans spin, rad pump lights up and sounds like its going, rad fans spin and the disc drive is operational.

video card is 7850 and that was working right before i took the old rig apart and is currently spinning just nothing is showing up on 2 different monitors. I also do not believe to have heard any beeping or any noise at all.

1 sdd with wn7 and whatnot from old build is attached with 2 other hdds. have tried booting with all plugged in and nothing plugged in.

Lastly, I've read threads where people say this board isn't workable with this cpu(because bios updates, but 3.1 seems to be kaveri ready?) and since the prev owner said it worked fine and was selling to upgrade and since he has been helping me since the issue started i want to believe him that he didnt sell me fugded up parts.

help?

The board is compatible, however it does require a newer Bios version than the one that it comes with in the first place. Since you bought it used, it is very possible it was bought before Kaveri was released or too soon after for them to have the right bios installed on it. If you don't have a compatible CPU that would fit in the motherboard, you could try and bring it to an electronic shop around your location and they would surely do it, for a price.

Have you guys tried clearing the CMOS? I looked up the board and it supports the 860K cpu right from the release BIOS (version F7) so that should not be the issue.. If the board had say a CPU with the IGPU enable in it before it could need the CMOS reset to properly work with the 860K which has no IGPU enabled on it.

I was just talking to the previous owner last night and he said it would be worth a shot. He had time stamps and pics of it working with cpuz and had offered to give my money back just now so i really do not feel like i was sold a dud. When I get home I'll be resetting the cmos via the clr cmos pins.

I'm hoping it doesn't come to this but I'll be calling the local pc shop this morning to make sure they are up for it 🙁

Start with the CMOS reset and I think it may just fix your problems. It's something people should do before they sell the motherboard, unless they sell the CPU with it. It's something so easy to forget about, mostly when you're used to buying your parts new, but it's so important.

I now realize that I made a small mistake in my previous message, so please forgive me. I should've said : ''Some motherboards with AMD's A88 chipset may need a Bios update prior to using Kaveri CPUs.''

As Utroz mentioned, do the CMOS reset and try again, keep my solution for last, since I don't want you to spend money if you can avoid it.

I used all your guys info so my plan is tonight to go through with the cmos reset with my hardware installed. Then if that doesn't work I'm going to try and mess around with listening for any beep codes since I had music on when I was testing this out. Lastly and I totally forgot to mention this, my 19month old likes to "help" me work on my computers...well he had shoved a screwdriver in the video card and I thought I had grabbed him quick enough but I'm beginning to think the reason I am not getting output is that he may have secretly really just fudged up my wifes pc haha. If I don't have any luck I have already planned to bring the case down to the local pc shop and he said he' d toss in some good cards to see if it Posts.

1 final noob question. The beep codes you get from the motherboard, is there a tiny speaker I need to hook up to hear those or does the mobo make that beep sound via some tiny frequency output/speaker?

Even if the power was off, two bad things could've happened anyway.

Static electricity isn't particularly friendly with computer components. That's why it is recommended to ''discharge'' the screwdriver on the metal case before using it in the computer.
The screwdriver could've damaged some integrated circuits on the board, though I find that is unlikely if you caught him pretty fast, because it isn't THAT fragile.

Sadly the X4 860k doesn't have integrated graphics, or you could've tried booting it up without any GPU...

Power was off, not even connected, was routing wires and it seems as if he really just hit the heatsink

I haven't heard a beep or anything. Do I need to hook up a speaker to hear that? My old AM2 build had a little speaker to hook up to the mobo for those beeps. Do the newer boards have it built in? Or is the speaker even needed and I am just way behind?

...no wonder I cannot hear anything. Oh and some progress last night. I noticed that I hadn't plugged the atx12v in all the way. So I cleared cmos then plugged that in and now it sounds like it is trying to boot/do something but still no video 🙁
