I want to build a newer pc. I'm upgrading from a i7 4770k. I just want an opinion should I buy i7 8700k, i5 8600k, or wait to see what rysen refresh will look like. I been looking between 8700k and 1700x for a bit now but then amd announced ryzen 2 releasing in april. Too many options. I probably don't even need more than i5 or 1600x. I stream a little and play alot of vr(upgrading to the vive pro). I guess just want the best for vr and streaming vr. I got a msi 1080ti gaming x.

Are you maxing out your current CPU? The 4770K is quite a good CPU. If you aren't. You may be quite disappointed and find little or no noticeable difference after building a new system.

Have you tried overclocking? At 4.2/4.3 Ghz it should handle any game you throw at it.

Do you have an SSD boot drive? If not, it makes a huge difference in day to day performance. Most people who think they need a new CPU actually need an SSD. They buy a new computer and are disappointed that it doesn't feel any faster. That is because they needed an SSD. If you want your games to load quickly. You'll want at least a 500GB SSD if not 1TB. It's well worth it. I'd never go back to using a hard drive for OS, Apps or Games. I just use them for data storage.

I myself have an overclocked 4770K and I'm thinking about upgrading this year sometime. I am for sure waiting and seeing what Ryzen 2 has to offer. You should too because the 4770K is plenty good enough to stick with and wait a bit. I personally just want something with a little more cores just in case I ever need or want the extra cores. I have a couple things in mind that I want to try out when I get the new CPU with more cores. I'd at least get a 6 core 12 thread CPU if you upgrade because the main reason to upgrade right now from a 4770k I think is for the extra cores and threads.
