8700k FPU utilization temps

OK so the time to upgrade my 4790k system came arround (overclocked at 1.35v for 3 years chip was dying) so i got my self an 8700k and this time i went with variable voltage to mitigate that, if voltage was the cause of it at all. Averages arroung 1.25v while gaming @5ghz and 1.28-1.3v while doing cpu benchmarks, stress tests, etc, and it almost never touches 70 degrees with a kraken x62 rev2
So, i went to do a little 10 minute stability test on aida64 and stressed just the FPU to check temps and had to stop a few seconds in since the temps peaked at 100C, even with pump and fans maxed out, fans set as intake, on a 20C ish room, and at about 1.31v.
I remember high temps doing this but not this high with my 4790k, this pulls 150 watts doing the FPU test instead of 110 with my 4790k, but i have a radiator more than twice the size of what i had on the 4790k.
Is this normal for 8th gen?
 
Gaming loads won't push the cpu as hard as those tests will.
Size isn't everything. 2x bigger doesn't equate to 2x more efficient cooling.
Anyway, the +2 cores and +4 extra threads is making a difference over the 4c/8t 4790k. 150w is a significant bump over 110.
Take this 8c/16t 7820x I'm on... more cores/threads = more power consumed and heat produced.
 

Oh, i wasn't trying to imply that it was, just that i was expecting it to handle 40w and 2 more cores at least as well has a 5 year old dying h80 did 110w and 4 cores, maybe 1.3-1.33v is too much for my chip and its not as well binned as I initially thought.
Oh and i know that gaming doesn't push it too hard, playing pubg or cs:go it almost never even touched 60C
 
problem with fluid is once the fluid warms up, it can no longer cool as well, which leads to slightly warmer fluid, less cooling, and....runaway temps...

Speaking merely from a lowly 7700K, AIDA 64 only generates a few degrees less than Prime95 (v26.1) at 63-64C (vs. 68C on P95) using a Noctua NH-D15...temps stop rising after 9 minutes with all cores at constant 4.5 GHz....(that would likely be only 105-110 watts of heat to dissipate, however)

Possibly the Kraken 62 is not going to allow a true 150 watts dissipated for very long without some runaway temps....but if it heating to 100C within seconds seems like it is not allowing the heat to be pulled away effectively, as certainly all of the fluid is not heating up THAT fast. (Perhaps a thinner coating of thermal compound? double checking the pump is locked down evenly?)
 

Actualy i hadnt considered liquid temp, but after doing the test again with same room temp i got the same results, the pre applied thermal paste on the kraken is supposed to be pretty good and its just a thin coatin, the liquid gets to bout 40C peak, i have a pretty agressive curve on pump and fans.
