8700K or 1800X for Digital Audio Workstation

Hello Everyone, I am looking at upgrading my computer for my home based recording studio and I am trying to decide between the 8700K and the Ryzen 1800X. Either one I get I will overclock as I have an Arctic Liquid Freezer 360 AIO. The Ryzen chip likely to 4GHz and the 8700K probably closer to 4.7-4.8GHz (I will not go so far as to Dellid the processor or using Liquid Metal though, even though I do have it and have used it in the past). I might do some video editing as well and maybe even light to moderate gaming but primarily this computer will be for music production and recording. I read online reviews from ScanProAudio that the Ryzen 7 chips had issues with not being able to refresh its cache quick enough for low buffer latency as well as Intel but then again that was very shortly after its initial release so I am sure that perfomance has improved with updates since then as those figures were back in March of last year. Also since that time we have had Meltdown and Spectre so both of those could affect the end result as well. Not really sure. I have 2 builds that I am trying to decide between.

Intel i7 8700K $349.99
Asus Z370 ROG X Code $289.99

Or

Ryzen 7 1800X $299.99
Asus Crosshair VI Extreme $319.99

As you can tell, Price is extremely similar. I also think that the 1800X is likely a better binned chip that the other Ryzen CPU's so since I live over an hour away I want to get a you with the best Overclock potential for 4GHz+. My other components are an XFX R9 295X2 Graphics Card, 32GB Kingston HyperX 2666 DDR4 Memory, An EVGA 1600W Platinum power Supply, and a Corsair 780T case. The most important additional aspects of my system are reliability aince it is going to be used with clients. No matter which of the two I go with both the CPU and Motherboard will be replaced within 3 years since I will uphradr before my product service plans end so upgrade path means little to me as both components will be replaced anyway. Does anyone have any feedback as far as these two processors as far as which one will be the best for my needs? Thank you in advance.

Compare the passmark numbers.
1800X is 15378 when all 16 threads are fully utilized. 1962 for a single thread.
I7-8700K is 16210 with 12 threads and 2729 single thread.

You will not be operating with all threads all the time, so I think the 8700K with the stronger single thread performance is likely to be better for you.

If you want maximum guaranteed overclocks, performance, silicon lottery sells binned chips for a premium.
It includes delidding and a warranty.

Hello, I am also building a PC for music production at home and I'm trying to decide between the i7 8700K and the Ryzen 2700X. I'd like to know if you have a specific reason aside from $$ for choosing the 1800X over the 2700X once the latter has better single thread performance and better overall score according to cpubenchmark.net, with same number of cores and slightly faster clock speed.

I would second the decision for the 8700k, though I'd definitely change the Board. ASRock has their Taichi line of boards, which are significantly less expensive than the Asus boards, but are still VERY STRONG overclockers. If Asus is a personal preference, then that's fine. Just putting the option out there: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fZKhP6/asrock-x370-taichi-atx-am4-motherboard-x370-taichi https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07638ZKSD/?tag=pcpapi-20
