I am trying to overclock my i7 8700K on an Asus Prime Z370 board. I have tried voltage ranges from 1.31-1.32 and about 60secs to 2 mins in it will crash. I have read the guides etc. Temps were hovering in the 78-80c range.

I am stress testing with Realbench at the moment but also have Prime95 26.6. In realbench it crashes. CPU-Z shows "Core voltage" dropping to 1.264 as soon as I start testing. VID is hovering around 1.30-1.32 during testing. Is the crash due to Core voltage dropping so low under load? If so, what is causing this? I have LLC set to "6" in the BIOS. I am unsure what else is causing the voltage drop, if that is even my issue.

whats your target core clock?
that to me seems like even a psu problem

what psu do you got?
if youre just tryna get 5ghz which is what these voltages seem to suggest
asus has a built in 5 ghz profile that I use and have 0 problem
cooler overclocks can be done but this one is pretty good for an auto overclocked profile

I am shooting for 4.9 @ 1.31v. I have gone up to 1.35 and it still crashes. Temps will hover in the low 80s during Prime95 before it crashes but it will run very shortly then crash. I do not believe it to be a temperature issue

I have it stable now at 4.8 with 1.295v with temps in the mid to high 70c's after a 1 hour stress test on Prime95

I have a Thermal take Smart 600w PSU and a Noctua NH-U12S cooler

I tried the ASUS 5ghz profile. Temps immediately jumped to 90-94c on Prime95 so I shut it down quickly.

to me this just look like you having the worst overclocking cpu ever
sorry about that

mine isn't great either but with an h150i (360mm rad) it manages 5ghz sustained at.. dont remember but normalish voltages
and can barely manage 5.2ghz (tho with very high voltages and still being barely stable)

Yea it is strange. I could have a crappy chip. I bought a prebuilt unit from NewEgg with this 8700k in it, they may just get cheaper chips which is why they can sell a prebuilt unit so cheap? I couldnt build it for what i paid for it for the most part.
