Currently I have a 8700k running at 5.2ghz stable on a 4k Acer x27 monitor. I have a msi 3090 gaming x trio. Where I am, the 5900x is starting to be available . Was wondering if it is worth siwtching out the 8700k for the 5900x?

Solution
For just gaming, probably not, especially if you are running at 4K where your RTX 3090 is going to be your limiting factor pretty much all the time. If you're doing a lot of productivity tasks that can leverage the extra cores then it would be more worthwhile.

Yes. It's worth it if you're doing a lot of things at once. Streaming, recording, watching vids, and browsing.

But if you're just going to game, then 8700K should be fine. the 15fps on online shooters that you will gain means nothing and it will all come down to skills.

Why run your car(CPU) at 9000rpm(clock-spd) for a slower acceleration and top speed when you can do it faster at 7000rpm. (with less gas)
