8800 GT help before I explode , details

Hi,

I've ran into a huge brick wall with my video card , I can't seem to figure out what is causing it to not work in my PC. So this is my last stop before I lose my insanity after working on it for 4 days and not being able to play mass effect 2 =( .

I have an 8800 GT EVGA that was stock in an FX7020 ( ill post specs later on ) .. Card all the sudden froze on a intro movie to a game , I wasn't on the computer more then 10 mins so there was no strain on the card out of normal turning on for the most part. Loading it right away artifacts on the black windows screen , I get even more artifacting when loading into windows and then it says the card has stopped due to errors ( code 43).

Now I took my card to get tested at a local shop and they said the card was just fine .. so I figure it might be something else and I put in a 7300 GS I found around the house and it works perfectly fine no problems what so ever. I've tried resetting cmos with the battery , each and every driver I could find , used driver sweeper to uninstall every single nvidia driver then start again and nothing. Ran all the windows tools available nothing shows up. Used recovery to go back to a prior state .. still same problem..

I'm fresh out of ideas if this card is still working. Any help will be very welcome thanks all .. I can post anything needed as well.. logs / error reports ect

Maybe the PSU starting to crap out or the card may really be dying.

One other thing you might try, is putting the card into another machine, if you have access to another one, and see if it does the same thing.

Sadly I don't , Thats why I took it in for the shop to test . Was my first guess to make sure the card wasn't fried as I've heard lots of reports of the 8800 gt crapping out . How ever they said it was fine /shrug .. maybe I need a second opinion lol

A few things:

Check that when you turn on the computer that the 8800's Fan is spinning. If it isn't, then that could be part of the problem (either dead fan or this is what caused it to overheat and won't let it run).

Unfortunately, more than likely the card is dead. Do you have a warranty thats not expired yet? If so, you should be able to get a replacement. If you took it to a shop and they said it checked out, they either ripped you off or truly the card crapped out afterwards. Either way, you have recourse, since you just took it to the shop and it didn't work when you got home, you can go back and say that it does not work as they say it did. Most places have a guarantee on their work and if they can plug it in at their shop and show you that its working, then you will know its OK and that some other component of your computer at home is not working.

Also, you can try placing it in a ziplock bag and putting it in the freezer for a while, then seeing if it starts up (silly trick, but at that point do you really have much else to loose?).

They didn't charge me to look at it which was cool .

The fan was spinning and the temps were not above normal when it died . 60-70ish c which seems the range for that card from looking around. The fan spins when I plug it in as well.

On the freezer I might try that ..or bake it ! Just want to make sure it's the card first tho =x

lol..nice screen.

I'd say that since removing/reinstalling drivers did not fix this screen corruption issue, that its the card itself thats gone bad. I had an old ATI 9800 pro that this happened to, died completely after a while. RIP

lol, nice pic. I assume that you have found out that baking cards actually is an accepted repair method in some circles.

I missed where you posted the PSU for your PC. 8800 might work intermittently with a gateway 300 watt psu, shold be ok with 350 or higher.

Maybe try under-clocking the 8800 and see if it gets better?

could be also not enuff power in ur power supply as i have a et1161-01 and it doesnt have enuff power to run a 1 gig video card

this is really annoying me every time i restart my gut ripping emahine i have to clear the cmos and god forbbid i need to make any changes such as a new hard drive going in it wont start until i clear the cmos and then press f1 and not change a thing in the bios and i cant find a update for this board mcp61pm-gm-6a61kcdhc-00
