8800 GTS broken?

Hello. I posted before about a problem with my 8800 GTS 512MB G92 graphics card. Anyways, my 8800 GTS won't work on my computer so I thought it was broken but I put it inside a friend's computer and it worked. I thought it was working but when I went on Device Manager and looked under Display Adapters it said somethig like "VGA Standard Graphics Adapters" or something. I made sure everything was plugged in and the moniter was plugged into my card. My friend told me that if the screen works, then the card works. Is this true? By the way, his setup consists of an ATI card so when I tried to update the drivers, it gave me an error saying this card isn't ATI. My question is, is this card broken or is it working?

It would read it as "VGA Standard Graphics Adapters" or similar since there was no drivers installed for it. That's if i remember correctly.

Oh... so my card is not broken but is showing up as VGA Standard Graphics Adapters because there are no drivers?

If you are getting a display on your monitor, then yes your graphic card is working.
You would not see anything on your monitor if it was not.
When you install a new GPU, Windows installs a generic VGA driver just so the card will work, but it will have very limited, or no features at all, limited low resolution, and way, way, way slower performance than the correct drivers you should install from your card manufacture.
If you had a previous card installed, you should go to Add Remove programs, and check to see if any previous GPU drivers have been installed. If they have, uninstall them before installing your GPU and drivers.

I don't think it is the driver's fault, card's fault, or my fault. I think the problem as to why this card won't work on my computer is because of my motherboard. At first, I downloaded the drivers and got a black screen (computer still runs). Since this failed, I went onto device manager to update the drivers under display adapters but I get a compatbility issue. Screen was very fuzzy. After many attempts I stopped and decided to put the card in again and when I plug the card in, screen turns black before I can even reach the desktop screen. I get black screen during bootup (Windows XP loading screen). Tried going to safemode, still got black screen. Then I plugged it into a friend's computer and it worked. Anyways, I have a M2N86-LA and I think this card won't work unless I do something with this motherboard (flash it something but I don't know how to do this). I read somewhere about a person having problems with his graphics card but he fixed it by flashing his motherboard four times or so. Thanks for all your replies.

I've tried PCI and PCI-E on the BIOS; still no luck.

I don't have any ATI drivers. Never installed any ATI cards in this computer.

Completely disagree with this state.
Perhaps I had the same problem as you, If I am not wrong, it's your card not your motherboard. After you plugged the card into you friend's computer you should install the driver of the card, old or new driver doesn't matter, just install it and wait until your friend computer boot into Windows. In my case, it couldn't so I sent it back to the manufacture for replacement.

If you want to boot into Windows with your card, you should go to Safe Mode first, then Start\Control Panel|Add Remove Program, after that remove any Nvidia Display Driver and Nvidia PhysX. Maybe this will allow you to get to desktop screen.

I said "his setup" not my setup.

I can't get into safemode; I get a black screen before I can even get into the desktop screen. I couldn't install any drivers on his computer because he has ATI drivers and he didn't want me to mess anything up and I can't install any drivers on my computer because I get the black screen before I can install it. Before, when I was able to get onto the desktop screen, I tried to install the drivers but got a black screen when it finished or I would get an error saying there's a compatability issue. When I was ABLE to get into safe mode, it said I had the 8800 GTS under the display adapters. Sorry my story is confusing, the situation changed a lot.

It could be anything at this point. If your friend is a really good friend, ask him if he'll let you use his card, if power requirements are the same, in your rig.
Other questions. Has the card ever worked?
What your rig setup, including power supply and 12v amperage? Model and make, look on side of psu.
If it works without card, its because as someone said earlier, its using the standard M$ driver, which isnt your native resolution on your display, its 800x600 I believe, and is why it looks fuzzy and works soo slowly
