8800 GTX

I got any question. I have a BFG 8800 GTX graphics card,but I will upgrade my motherboard to SLI (the new motherboard had some I needed that old motherboard didn't have), would be worth be a second BFG 8800 GTX for SLI? I do play at a 1680 x 1050 resolution. I know it be worth if I had a 1900 x 1200, but not so sure about 1680 x 1050. Thanks for any opinions....

It all depends what you play and what kind of results you're currently getting. What are you trying to accomplish? Is your performance good enough already?

If you're like a friend of mine that plays WoW and then decides to crossfire 3870's, then don't expect any visual performance increase. If you're playing games like Crysis or other games in DX10 mode, extra graphics horse-power will never hurt.

It is probably not worth it.

The 8800GTX is already one of the strongest cards.
A second 8800GTX will be very expensive.
You will probably have to upgrade your PSU for additional 12v amps, and the 4 pci-e connectors needed.
Some games do not show any benefit from SLI.

Could you get an add-in card for the extra features that you need instead?

Eh, hard to recommend getting a second 8800GTX at this point in time. Still cost way too much, around $400, and really at 1680x1050, what games are being bogged down?

I think another option to consider would be to wait for the 9800X2, it should offer performance similar to, if not a little lower than, SLI'd GTXs, but would cost the same (cheaper after selling the GTX) and just be one slot. Power consumption would be lower too.

I have two 8800 GTX in SLI and I can definitely say it's not worth it. The system runs hot with the required PSU and the cards are a scorcher. I'm using Vista 64, yes I know, but I don't see that much of an increase to shell out 4 c notes. I'm actually waiting for the next generation of Nvdia cards to come out because with the smaller process, hopefully they'll run cooler.
