With these specs you can see that the 8800GTS is a better card. So why should i or anyone else buy the 9800Gt Card? Most of its parts and setup comes from the 8800GTS. Why not just buy the 8800GTS or go with something higher like the 200 Series. Well 1 or 2 are kinda based off of the base 8800GTS also.

I would like to see a battle against the 8800GTS vs 9800GT or maybe 8800GTS vs all of the 9000 series, . Their are alot of charts already on Toms Charts page. Theirs also a chart for Mainstream Quality and High Quality cards.

I've been looking for a new video to buy all day and just felt like writing something like this so I can get some comments on it. I wanna buy the 9800GT because it's new but it really isn't new. Also the price of both of them are in a good range with the 800GTS a lil lower $89.99. I current have the 8500 video card. But for some reason the card went bad. SO its time for a new one.

Please leave your comments below and help me and others out that are having problems with picking a new video card.....

Ok The 8800 GTS is the same as a 9800 GTX so the GT would be a step back the gt has 112 shaders and the gts and gtx have 128... and just so ya know I have seen the 9800 GTX+ in the 90 something dollor range if you look for deals. the plus is a die shrunk 9800 gtx. Hope that helps.

^ Well the 9800GTX has faster clocks than the 8800GTS, but the performance is pretty close since they have the same number of shaders and the difference in clocks isn't that great.

Anyway because the 8800GTS is older they aren't getting too much attention on the driver side. For example, the newer 18x.xx series of drivers still have trouble with the 8800GTS in Bioshock despite the fact that the issue has been fixed for 9800 series cards. Basically the fix on that one is to use older 17x.xx series drivers. It's not that there is anything wrong with the 8800GTS, it's that nVidia isn't making them anymore so they don't want to support them them .

Since they are both in the same price range, there's no question the 8800 GTS 512 is a much better buy. I've used both and can see the performance difference in the latest games. People who buy the 9800 GT think they're getting a better deal with the lower power consumption but really is that a consideration when you're trying to enjoy a game at a smooth framerate?
