Hello! I changed from 4(2x2) to 8GB (2x4) Rams last x-mas. Tho I noticed before some hours that I got usable ram 4gbs only...Where at? Read below..
-My computer~>Prop~>Installed ram: 8gb(avaiable for usage 4)
-Task Manager~>Performance~>Memory 4GB..
-msinfo32.exe ~> Installed ram 8gb / For usage: 4gb
-Bios~>Ram for usage 4000mb(aprox)
-Memory gadget on desktop: size: 4000mb...
BUT..CPU-Z Memory tab says Memory size : 8192 mb..

So what's going on?
I 'll tell you what I've tried so far but nothing changed..
i) Memory remap on bios in enabled.
ii) msconfig , max memory is unticked [ ]

Any ideas?://
Thankful for any answer!

PS: Till last xmas I've done like 2 or 3 formats , and Im fully cleaning my comp once a month.(via antivirus , cant defrag cause I use my ssd(C:/) where my windows are installed)

(could be wrong) but I was pretty sure that would signify a 32bit system. There are some setting in the boot menu that might have your system limted to 4gb as well.

Not sure when XMP became a thing but if you haven't already try to enable XMP in your bios if not make sure the ram is actually set up at the speeds its supposed to run at.

Also possible a bios update could do the trick, it might not support 4gb sticks? unlikely but I would certainly give it a shot.

Hi,

Try resetting to bios defaults, if that doesnt work then switch memory remap off, and check if your onboard graphics is not using 4gb.

Well I can't select XMP on bios cause via this I overclocked my cpu...
I remember last xmas when I bought them I changed to xmp , problem was the same as far as I remember.
Last thing , the speeds are fine. bios says 1666 (DDR3-1666mhz , I selected it when I OCed my cpu before some days.)

Are you sure your OS is really 64-bit? Can you right-click on "Computer" and go to "Properties" to verify?

Could be a BIOS settings. Did you try to flash your BIOS with latest version? Then try to reset BIOS to default settings it could help.

Hi gabor. if I reset my bios settings I'll need to OC my cpu again , right?
Althought if im right I enabled it today the remap option. before it was disabled. still same prob

Plus @msconfig even if I leave the max memory tab unticked or not makes the same. 4gb usable..

Do confirm that you actually have the 64 bit version installed. resetting your bios isn't the same thing as updating the bios. I think this is your best bet (assuming you are in fact running a 64 bit os). You will have to redo your OC, but you can just write down what you changed... which is what 4 settings max?

Aaah I see! The OC i've done was kiiinda simple , I selected turbo mode on a a cpu selection which automatically went my frequency @3,2ghz and then i switched some settings at voltage and so on.

So what do you say? Will I need to update my bios? defeault its settings?
If I defeault them , what will change except my ghzs on cpu?

you don't need to default anything when you UPDATE your bios it will automatically default the settings. Anything you changed in bios will go away, but surely you havn't changed much... whatever you used to "turbo" your cpu will still be there just follow the same steps you did originally and write down any values you may have manually changed.

Aha...I see
Can you help me to update my bios 'cause I got no idea how to do it..
my mobo is Asus P7P55D ...

But wait a minute , my mobo can handle max 16GB of RAM , why arent the rest 4 gbs usable?! :O

http://www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax go there, enter exactly what board you have, that is only a partial name. Then it will ask for your operating system, then find the bios, download said bios, unzip it to a USB stick, restart your computer and enter the bios, there should be a bios flash utility in your bios.

use copy past as my link gets cut off by the forums... copy all the way to the end of the word wax.

Both rams are adjusted in the same dimm
my mobo has 4 slots , 1 black 1 blue 1 black 1 blue
I got them both in blue
cant try both in black cause 1 black slot is being blocked by my cooler , its kinda "big" and it hides the 1 left slot..

As for as the booting by bios , I didnt find anything , just to change the order from what the pc will be booted (ssd hdd usb)
I restarted , press f8 (boot menu) , ran the usb but nothing

Just to make 100% sure, could you please right-click on "Computer" and select "Properties" ? Then under "System type:" could you please check if it says 32-bit or 64-bit?

Some Windows 7 Ultimate DVDs come with both 32-bit and 64-bit installation sometimes, so it's a possibility that you didn't install the right one.

To flash your BIOS, simply go on the Asus website, in the "Support" section for your motherboard model, just pick "Drivers & Tools" and download latest version for your BIOS. It should come with instructions or readme file so just follow the step-by-step instructions they give you. If you have questions at some point don't hesitate to ask us. Here is the link:
