8gb of ram only 6.96?

I just built this PC last Thursday for gaming and upgraded to windows 10 but for some reason it says I only have 6.96 gb of ram usable and I want to use my full 8 can someone help me get it to 8? Here's my specs mobo Msi 970 gaming, GPU evga GTX 960 4gb, CPU amd fx 8320 eight core 3.50 ghz, ram ripjaw 8gb.

Can you do that? So out of my 16GB can I put 4gb towards my 2gb gpu to give it 6gb?

Windows and any operating system needs set aside some RAM for processes, applications, etc. My desktop has 12 gb and RAM and the full 12 is never available. If you need 8 gb available at all times, you will need more RAM. Windows is pretty good at moving things around and using pagefiles and such to make sure you have enough memory for what you are doing. You can always close programs that you don't need to be running to open up some memory. And you are not sharing RAM with with your GPU. Your GPU has it's own VRAM for that.

Check in nVidia control panel and can see how much is being shared, it doesn't matter that the GPU has on board DRAM, it still get's shared DRAM from your system DRAM. Available and usable are two different things
