Hi all..

I can get 4gb of low profile kingston on ebay for a good deal; about 12 pounds and their stock is running out soon apparently, at the moment i have 8gb of corsair lp 1600 mhz ram. However the kingston ram is about 1066mhz, im assuming this will drag the corsair also down to 1066. So my question is, is it worth it throwing those in one time and will they work? Or its not worth the hassle? I don't really do any gaming but use sony vegas and photoshop now and again / internet browsing.

Thanks.

Just forgot to add my mobo has 4 slots so the corsair has already taken up 2 slots (2x4gb) and the kingston also will be 2 slots taken up.

I'm not sure how much better the 12Gb would be than your existing 8, but even before considering buying it, make sure your existing 8Gb 1600 can even drop down to 1066. I use pcwizzard to look at the specs of my installed hardware, but I don't know if it's the best.

Keep in mind that the computer will try to downclock but you can run in trouble because the timing and voltage a re probably better

Problems could be slowdowns and hiccup up to BSOD.

I recommend having the exactly the same ram.

Also the difference between 1066 and 1600 are not that great, you have to check the timing also.

Went from 2 X 2 Gb 1066 to 2 X 4 Gb 1600 and did not see any difference.

Windows experience index went from 7.4 to 7.7.

Getting a SSD is will have more of an impact on the speed if you don't have one already.

Also, if your not doing video encoding, rendering, more than 8 GB is overkill for right now.
