Question 8GB RAM only showing 4GB

So, I've recently pulled apart my old PC and given it a cleanout in the hope that it improves performance slightly. Upon startup however, I noticed that it was saying there was only 4GB RAM installed, even in the BIOS it says this. I installed CPU-Z and looking at the SPD tab it recognises that there are 2 sticks installed but they are each showing as 2GB. As far as I'm aware there's no limit below 4GB on each socket but that's the only thing I can think would cause this. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

I'm running Windows 10 Home edition 64-bit. Below are my machine specs.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955
MOBO: ASUS M4A77T
RAM: 2 x 4GB 1200MHz Patriot
GPU: GeForce GTX 560

Is it windows 32bit or 64 bit? If it's 32 bit, it may only recognise 4gbs. That's the limitation of the 32 bi version of windows.

Sorry, I meant to point out it's 64 bit, as I was aware of that.

You might need to update your bios.

Try that and report back.

That is probably caused by whatever RAM: 2 x 4GB 1200MHz Patriot is.

See if you can come up with a part number or link to where you bought it. Removing it and reseating it may help. While its out take a picture of any writing on the labels.

Run MemTest86 to test for any errors. If you get any errors, you probably can have it replaced under warranty.
