Hello,

I am getting some memory management bsods on my pc and upon reading I am going to replace the RAM.

I had 8gb ddr4 2666mhz and used it for gaming mainly, I know you probs get this all the time but is 8gb of RAM enough for gaming. I have the EVGA z170 FTW which has 4 slots so I could just get another 2x4gb kit down the road or should I just get 16gb of the bat?

Thanks

Solution
BIOS update may help with DRAM problems. If me I'd go 16GB, but would also say, suggest it in a 2x8GB set, mixing sets of DRAM can be and often is problematic.

Why won't you go for 1x8 ? This would make one slot remain which may need in future , So i would go for your Current 8GB + another 1x8 GB , total of 16GB with another one slot remaining :)

8gb is enough RAM for modern games as long as you aren't recording and keep your background processes to the minimum. I would suggest 16 gb if you were getting bsods about system memory management and if you are going to eventually upgrade to 16gb anyways you should go with 16 gb package right away because when you buy pairs of RAM they are tested together and they work. Sometimes when you buy two separate packages they don't work together or are funky with how they work. Hope this helps! :)

You may not even have to replace your RAM, try downclocking to 2133Mhz. All DDR4 over 2133Mhz is actually overclocked and some boards have issues running it at the rated speed. Running in at the stock speed may just make your problems disappear.

I have tried that it makes no difference. Also, it is so weird I ran memtest86 for 8 hours and no errors came up I don't know what else to do but try and change the ram.
