8pin vs 2x8pin GPU

I am looking specifically at the EVGA 1080 SC2 & FTW2 models, which other than about 12 MHz Base/Boost clock difference are identical but the FTW2 requires a 2x8pin plug and has a TDP of 35w more than the SC2.

Is this just for overclockability? Otherwise what would be the point of it having that much extra power draw potential?

Yes, the extra cable -> can draw more power -> more overclocking -> higher oc speed.

So if I am not overclocking is there any point? Other than that 12mhz extra boost? Should I just go with the SC2?

I'd just go with the SC2. The FTW edition is for people who want all the bells and whistles.

They all perform similarly and evga does make really good gpus. I will get cheapest non blower version and 3 fans version is preferred.
