I need a 8TB SSD for heavy engineering test data handling. Should I buy something like Micron 5300 Pro 7.6Tb or just stitch (extended volume) lots of smaller drives? Is stitching reliable? I can't afford making copies and double the processing time. Any experience anyone?

Thanks in advance.

If you use a spanned volume, then the failure of any single member of the span will bring down the whole lot. I would think that the likelihood of failure for a spanned array would be significantly higher than for a single drive.

It's a Lenovo workstation with 5th gen Xeon E51620v4 64 gb memory Quadro M2000 running W10enterprise.
I just process multi Tb binary data files with my own c++ code.
