[SOLVED] 8th and 9th gen proc

Hello, i would like to ask if intels 8th and 9th gen procs only use z370 mobos? Are there other options those boards are reallly expensive. Thanks.

The Z370/Z390 boards are not the only option but they are the only option if you want to overclock.

If you don't care about such things grab a non K 8th gen i5 or i7 and a B360 or H370 motherboard. B360 boards are well under 100 USD. You can stick a K processor in a nonoverclock board but besides the slight base speed increase of these CPUs its generally considered not worth the money to do so.

If you don't want to overclock then the other 300 series motherboards, like the B360 or H370 are options.

DIMM slot numbers mainly just depend on the board. Many mATX form factor boards have just 2 due to size although I've seen 4. What if your budget and form factor of your case? (ATX, mATX, ITX?)

I think a gigabyte b360m ds3h would be a good mobo for an i5-9400f build which is around my budget, any
thoughts?

Should be fine. FYI Newegg has the i5-9400f on sale right now for 159 USD but only for the next 4 hours.

Just remember with the i5-9400f or any of the F chips it means they have no integrated graphics, meaning you will have to have a graphics card.

You have a dual channel memory controller on any CPU for those boards. They work optimally with two DIMMs. Saying "I'll just add two more later" works about 1/3 the time. Buy the RAM once and forget it. Don't buy a motherboard to have empty slots.
