Hi,
I have an old Linux box I built 7+ years ago (pre multi-core technology) and I'm looking to do a major upgrade. I currently have 2x74Gig WD Raptors (first generation), for the OS/SWAP, and 5x2TB WD Caviar Black. I was thinking of going to a modern 6-Core i7-970 (LGA1366) and I want a motherboard with all the new goodies. So far I've found some enticing ones but I haven't found one with 8 SATA3 Ports. I'd like to replace the 2 Raptors by super fast OZ SSDS and I'd like to upgrade the Caviars, in the future, to whatever is out then (probably with a SATA3 interface) since I usually keep my computers for a long time.
An acceptable compromise would be a board with 2xSATA3 and a PCI-X slot, since I have a very inexpensive ($100) SuperMicro SATA2 controller with 8 ports and I have no reason to believe they won't make a SATA3/4 in the future.
However I've been unable to find a board with all the goodies I want. Is it a matter of time?
Erasmo.
