If my current 'Kingston Hyper-X' RAM (3 x 2Gb) runs at 9-9-9-27. Am I better to buy new memory to replace it that is 12Gb (3 x 4Gb) that runs 9-9-9-24.

Or get a set of the same Kingston Hyper-X 12Gb (3 x 4Gb) to add to the existing 6Gb I already have?

How important is the last number, 24 vs 27?

Solution
Nothing that will be noticeable. I would get a 12GB kit and just leave it with 12GB unless you are using it for 3d work or editing needing more ram.

Well I just ordered the Kingston Hyper-X Genesis 3x4Gb kit. I'll just use the 12Gb for a couple of months to make sure its fine. I might then experiment by putting the old RAM back in alongside it. Cos hey 18Gb or RAM has got to be better then 12Gb. Plus it means I can set up a 4 or 8Gb page swap virtual memory thing on a RAMdisc.
