A drop of 5-10C in temperature.
A drop in die size by ~45%.
A drop of 20W in power.
A drop of 12A in current.
A drop of 0.1V in voltage.

and a small-minor improve in performance due to all the above factors.

did 42C @ 2.64GHz on air cooling.

this is why my next chip is going to be a Winchester! I wonder how far I could push it with my watercooling?

AMD did put very good 90nm chips on the market!

And me too, this chip will be my next "core" component!!!

BTW, WoW stress test is very fun!!!

and just think, this wasnt even amd's 'mature revision' thats going to be the revision E 90nm that adds sse3 among other things.

i think its pretty clear now that amd succeeded with 90nm, plain and simple. its apperent they waited it out till they had a stable process.

Yeah it sounds like a decent idea. Not a great one, and certainly no need for it, but if you want to spend an extra 200 or more bux, you can go that route vs 754 slot.

The lower heat and wattage however make it very nice. But, people often get varying results of heat depending on how the applied the goo and what goo they used for the heatsink, I just shaved off 6 centigrade of a slightly and unknowingly misplaced big copper sink on a 1.2 tualatin. thing runs less than human body temperature now.

i think the real claim was 3 degrees cooler, which, for a silent enthusiast does rock.

I hope the sse3 whatever doesnt make it more prescott like in its heat output (it could increase heat output).

I might go 939 in the spring if all is stable and AGP continues to be the best system (otherwise I will wait for pci express to actually do something)

By the way, AMD64 with PCI-EXPRESS will be available in the coming weeks! No need to wait until next Spring...

extra $200? where do you get that number?

i think anyone that is now choosing between the s754 and the s939 would be hard pressed to not pick the s939 chips. i mean cpu prices are basically the same, and there are enough motherbaords of varying price to give anyone a choice.
