Hey All,
First time poster...first time build. I am using a Gigabyte G1 Assassin 2 that came with Bios F4...which was sorely outdated. Everything has been good for a couple day but I've held off running anything until I got up the nerve to do my Bios update since they are up to F11. I used the @Bios tool and followed Gigas instructions to a T. It auto flashed after install, and I get a dos prompt. The OS won't load. I have the OS installed on a Samsung SSD, and my backup is a Seagate Baracuda 2TB. I do have access to the MOBO tool at start up and went into the Bios set up. It did the update and shows my current BIos as the f11, BUT...it doesn't see my SSD as a boot option. I put in my window 7 ultimate disc and the computer booted, but wants to install on my Seagate. I recognized my BlueRay drive as Boot priority 1 and my Seagate as priority 2. I decided to install win 7 on the seagate...and get it up and running. I Device Management it lists the SSD, the HDD, and my external backup drive, but still doesn't list the SSD in the bios management, and won't boot without my windows disc in. How do i get the SSD back in the boot options of the Bios tool?

Please help...thanks in advance.

well since you updated your BIOS...there may have been some changes to the hardware side of your Mobo.
I would look at reinstalling the chipset drivers.
I don't understand why people update their BIOS when the system works perfectly fine!
You'll probably have to do a format of your SSD when you get it to be recognised.

It's still in AHCI...but doesn't see the SSD as an option at all. I tried making the Seagate the primary and loaded Windows on it, but it won't boot from it either. :(

And I updated my Bios because all the reading I've done everyone said it was critical if your bios was later than f7 because of the issues with the UD7 MOBO. Not to mention everything I read says "be sure and down load the latest bios update"... :(

I can access both the SSD and the HDD once Windows is started with the CD...so they are working...but they just won't work in the BIOS set up tool that allows me to choose the boot order.

So oddly...if I hit F12 which is called "Boot Menu"...it lists all three drivers, SSD, HDD, and BluRay, and I can select the SSD and it boots up just fine, but still doesn't list it as a save option in the Boot Options??? Don't get it.

Agree with both posters here. On the plus side, seeing that you are using a Gigabyte, and it has their Dual BIOS as part of it's feature set, you can always use that to revert back to a perfectly functional BIOS backup.

I would also like to restate that flashing the BIOS of a system that is running without issue, logically can not make it have less issues, but can make it have more. :)

Yes, but the secondary, backup BIOS will likely have default values set. You need to go through the BIOS and verify all of your settings again, even if you think you already set them. I've also seen cases with Gigabyte BIOSs that are just obnoxious, and after setting the boot order, it still reverts. Set it, go back in, verify it's still set the way you expect, then boot. At least you've a functioning system for now, with the F12 boot menu.

Might try the system with only the SSD plugged in, just to see what happens. Perhaps a register is set in the BIOS that needs to be reset, and the F11 BIOS borked it all up. The F11 notes are but 1: "1.Improve SATA HDD compatibility" That says something right there. Perhaps they haven't fixed their compatibility yet, or in the process, killed it for some other drives.

You're probably dead on Big...I guess I'll go back through all the values as you said...and try leaving only the SSD plugged in, and plan to spend some time on the phone with Gigas tech support tomorrow. As you said...at least I have F12. lol Thanks guys for the help.

It May be face plant moment. A lot of the new mb have two sets of Sata chips sets now. Intel and a third party chipset. On my saber tooth the aftermarket 6g Sata ports are not bootable ports but work fine in windows.
Check to see if the Ssd on the right 6g port.
