939 Processors but no mobos?

Getting the final specs together for my new comp over on new egg, Was planning on an AMD 64 3500+ but there arent any 939 motherboards available. Is the performance difference between the 3400+ and the 3500 + that big of a difference? Ive read the articles at anand and THG, but still come out undecided. Is there any reason to get 3500+ over 3400+? Thanks in advance for the help.

the short answer is: get the 3500+
the dual channel memory controller is worth the wait and the price difference because soon enough u will be able to use ddr500 along with the 1000Mhz hypertransport (only on the s939 CPUs) so go for it.
and pay no attention to all that hype about the nvidia chipsets being better for nvidia cards, its a load of crap, get a K8T800 PRO based board.

What about waiting for socket 939 motherboards with PCI Express? How long do you think it will be till we see those?

depends, sis has already said they will be the first out with pci-e chipset for amd so it could be as early as july when you can get a pci-e amd board, since the other makers are also hinting at thier solutions.

Not much IMHO. You get better chances of upgrading without replacing the motherboard, but by the time you want to upgrade a 3400+ (which could be quite a while), odds are you want a PCI-E motherboard and videocard anyway. Performance is identical for all practical purposes.

If you can find a S939 board that fits your budget and requirements, go for it. If not, I wouldn't wait long for it, tons of good and cheap S754 boards to pick one from.
