I currently have a i5 6600 but want to upgrade to a 6core cpu on a budget (I mainly play csgo). I currently have 8gb 2133mhz ram and am Considering the 9400f since I can reuse this ram and would need to buy new ram for the ryzen.taking into account the price of the 9400f and 2600x (in cad) and my circumstances, which would be a better buy?

2600x, hands down. 6 cores/12 threads for about $200, vs just 6 cores/6 threads for almost the same price?
But do make sure you get 2x sticks of at least 3000mhz ram. Ryzen cpus are really sensitive to ram speed.
If you were to get the 2600x and pair it with cheap 2400mhz ram, the 9400F would actually pull ahead.

EDIT: You may not be aware, but the 9400F would also require a new motherboard.

If you are on that tight of a budget, I'd just stick with what you already have - an i5-6600 should already be hitting ~200fps in CSGO unless you are running into some other bottleneck, don't need more than that unless you have a 200+Hz monitor and can tell the difference from a 120-144Hz one.

I'm aware i need a new mobo, thanks for the info! I know the 9400f sucks compared to the 2600x due to a lack of threads. decided im going to just save up for the r5 3600

Ya thats what i was thinking, i currently have a gtx 970 so i might just replace that with a 1660ti and then save up for a ryzen 5 3600.
