Ok, this is a STRANGE one that most likely leads to a bad ethernet port on my Z490 Unify MSI but.....

So i got 1 gig internet last week, installed on my new gaming rig with all the goodies. 3090fe, 64gbram, 10900k etc.

Cat8 wired connection

Verizon to router is 940/940

Trying to stream and Im having terrible issues. Like awful. Almost so bad its alarminng

Router to device is where it gets weird

Internet Test shows 940 download speed..and......7-15 upload?!?!

So i call verizon, 1 hr on the phone (no wait time, ALL tlaking) they seem to have everything on their end being ok. We even tried unplugging the router from the wall and just going directly into the ethernet connection off the wall but no luck

Until...i connected the SAME lan cable, from the router to my 2011 imac. I pulled 940/940 router to device?! but the same test only pulled 940/7 on my pc withthe SAME WIRE

whats crazier is i pulled 24 upload speed on WIFI!

So this is likely an ethernet port issue yes? I have no firewalls on, no blocking issues on my pc

Snagged a 15 dollar PCIE 1 modem thatll be here tommorow to troubleshoot furhter, but anybody ever have this issue?

Boot a portable Linux image. It is more likely a Windows issue than a network hardware issue.

Ok sadly, I want to say i know what that means, but I do not. Might you have a linkt o a video or something to walk me through this?

OR, is there anyway to fix this with windows issues?

Basically you're going to boot a linux live cd/usb that will run an os in ram that you can use to run a speedtest outside of windows on the same hardware. If you get the same 940/940 you're supposed to, then there's nothing wrong with the network or your nic, just something in windows.

To boot a linux live cd/usb, download this:
https://www.spi.dod.mil/docs/TENS-3.0.2_public.iso

And write it to a CD. If you don't have a CD drive in your system, write it to an empty usb using Rufus:

Once you do that, you can put the cd/usb in your system and then at boot select it to be the boot devices. After booting you'll see a linux gui that is windows-like and you can run a speedtest using firefox. I'd use fast.com and dslreports.com/speedtest for the speedtests as well as whatever you used before. If they all check out 900+, then you don't need a nic--we just have to figure out why windows is limiting your speeds.

you know, its possible that not activating my windows is causing that issue perhaps? I jsut realized i never bought a product key for this windows!
