mobo: Asrock 980de/u3s3 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125885R
gpu: GV-N950OC-2GD https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125885R
My Gigabyte 950 mini will work just fine in PCI Express 2.0 x1 Slot (PCIE2) (with adapter) but when I plug it into PCI Express 2.0 x16 Slot (PCIE3) it says no signal. Also does it have a uefi bcuz ive only seen the bios but at post it says press tab to switch screens idk if that means bios to uefi or not and if it does how do I get to it?

UPDATE (2/19/17 17:19): both the sticker and cpuz list P1.60 bios
I know the gpu is supposed to go in the pcie x8/16 slot but it wasn't working so I tried a x1 to x16 adapter I have and it worked fine before I left for work just got home and the pc was on (I turned it off before leaving). I restarted the pc and I didn't see anything so I took the 950 out of the x1 put it in the x16 and it didn't work tried it in all x1 slots and it didn't work so there is something wrong with the board. It was either used by someone at the seller or returned bcuz it didn't have the socket cover and it already had a cpu cooler bracket on (the one where you hook it on one side then the other side and push the lever down)

ya, does look like one of them boards with the iffy legacy bios used ?

try what madmatt30 says flash the latest bios and fingers crossed . that may be the ticket

here ti seems a gtx 970 working fine on one ??

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9051385

and a giga 970 at that so you would think that 950 should as well unless they changed its V-bios on them cards in some way

another one as well

''My Gigabyte 950 mini will work just fine in PCI Express 2.0 x1 Slot '' you do not want to di that anyway you have to use the x16 slot as per your manual

''PCIE3 (PCIE x16 slot; Black) is used for PCI Express x16 lane width graphics cards''

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/434043/Asrock-980de3-U3s3.html?page=18#manual

NVidia cards require at least x8 and amd x4 on the slot x1 is for wifi cards / sound cards ect..... not GPU's

from youyr PM to me you say the cards working fine in your friends computer and still not yours even with the latest bios ??? may be something to what I said above ??

the 950 may have a revised v-bios that may make it not compatible with your board today

and you need to place the card in the proper x16 slot as shown in your manual not any of the rest that top pci-e x16 slot is dedicated slot for graphics card use ..

may need to return that card for another brand 950 like a MSi card they tend to have better all around compatibility and seem to have less issues on a lot of boards [opinion]

from newegg reviews of the card

Cons: I installed this card in a motherboard that fit all the listed requirements. But the 6 beeps that the motherboard would make upon powering up indicated "video card failure". I contacted the manufacturer and was told the card was not compatible with my motherboard, citing some requirement jargon that was never listed anywhere on the description on Newegg, nor on the box, nor at the manufacturer's, Gigabyte's, website. I didn't have another computer to test it in, and returning it to Newegg for reasons of "incompatibility" would have resulted in a listing fee I didn't feel like putting up with, so I held on to the "incompatible" card. Once the opportunity came, I traded the card to a friend. However, he also can't get the card to work in a motherboard that is brand-spanking-new. But now it's too late to get any sort of refund on this card that is now looking to be Dead-On-Arrival.

Update the board to the 2015 v2 BIOS , also drop in bios & open advanced /chipset settings/primary VGA adapter & ensure it's set to PCI express

& no the board is an old 760g chipset & runs an old amibios , this shouldn't matter with a maxwell card though at all , I have a 970 running an a 760g board from the same era.

'' this shouldn't matter with a maxwell card though at all ''

ya it does and where this bios compatibility was a issues like with a lot of z68 and gtx 970 cards when some worken fine some needed updated bios support some were just left S.O.L

haven't noticed the push to start to get you off your old good working hardware and how you now got to support then instead of them supporting you ??

its about become a joke . well already is

look at all the threads on these latest card just here . compatibility and support has taken a back seat to sales hype and gimmicks , things aint as so plug and play anymore
