I just installed windows 7 on my new build that includes a 955be with a katana 4 hsf. Idle temps are around 26-27 and when I do prime 95 for 10 or so minutes it gets up to 44 but shoots up the 36 within the first minute.
Is this normal behavior? I only ask because it's my first build from scratch. I used AC5 on the cpu and had someone watch to make sure I did it correctly.

Aside from that I would like to know if speed fan will let me control the HSF/if it will only control case fans connected to the mobo (currently only have them connected to the psu)

Your temps are fine. I'm an intel user but I know enough that they are fine. You can find lots of info on your temps with a new program called google. Just type in a reasonable search string and some legwork on your own you'll figure it out.

Try Prime 95 with small ffts, let run an hour to let the case interior to heatsoak the warmer air. Your gonna be fine though.

If you got a powerful GPU, run Furmark at the same time. The two proggies will push your system more than normal use will. If all is good, no worries.

Speedfan can do a lot, but it's complicated and a lot depends on your mobo. Go to the speedfan web page. Ohh! You can use google to help you find it.

Some mobos have a current limit per connector, but you shoud be fine with 1 fan per connector. All depends on your mobo and how much learning you want/need to do, good luck!
