960 gtx doesn't work with my computer

I recently got a 960 gtx from one of my friends and decided to try to put it in my computer which is a dell xps, the card fits in fine and all. While booting up the computer, the card seems to be running however after a few seconds an error message appears and the simplys stops so the computer goes back to the default, very crappy windows card, what should I do??

Did you boot into Safe Mode and remove the old video drivers, then install the new GPU, boot into Safe Mode again and install new drivers. I assume the XPS has the right PCIe power cable for that GPU. it should need 1x 6 pin cable.
