I am new to OCing and am wondering how much of a real world performance boost a person gets with the 9600Pro?

So with FarCry as an example how many FPS increase would a person expect? Only looking for ball park numbers here. Thanks!

Not much is to be expected but enable the FPS counter to really see any increase in performance.

Go here and d/l the Rage3d tweak program and see http://www.rage3d.com/index.php?node=r3dtweak

Install, reboot and see how high you get ur core and mem speeds. It's pretty easy to use the proggie for OCing

Mobile XP 2600+ (11X200)
Abit NF7-S v 2.0
Maxtor 60GB ATA 133 7200RPM

BBA 9800 Pro
Enermax Noisetaker 420 watts

I can give you an idea later today with UT2K4 and Morrowind using fraps and a few Benchies (of my chosing :evil: ), but from experience it basically smooths out your minimum FPS.

Overclocking the MEMROY has a greater impact than the core, since the R9600P is memory starved more than anything.

Ok just got in ran a few tests.

Change from 400/300 to 500/350 using Xp2000+ with CAT 4.7 drivers;

Morrowind in alot of cases about 20% improvement. Even in the most grinding section I could think of (where I could get similar frames) starting from a single save point, at stock I got 9-10 fps and at overclocked I got 11-12 fps. Sure it's not grand but that was at 16x12 good solid boost.

I still haven't found a full version benchmark for UT2K4, but the frame rates bumped up about 5-10fps (closr to 10-15% increase) with 12x10 for simlar situations, but there it's not as easy to compare.

So sometimes minor, sometimes major, but the main impact will likely be felt in the Min. FPS area, although there should be a global boost even if small at times.
