Thinking of getting a new video card. Local store has: PowerColor Radeon 9600Pro 128MB DDR AGP8X Video Card w/VO/DVI, and Microstar GFX5600-VTDR 128MB DDR AGP8X Video Card w/VIVO/DVI for about the same price. I know that the msi one was just awarded the editors choice in the recent Toms review but i wanted to know some other opinions. Or perhaps some other options????
Wanna spend no more than $250 Cdn.

I don't know if the Microstar is any good or not. But I do know that I have heard ALOT of bad rap about Powercoler's products and the brand itself in general. If you want a 9600 card, get a card that is built by Hercules, Saphire, or good ol' ATi. If you want the 5600 you might be okay with the Microstar. But to set your answers straight for sure, check the THGC Graphics card buyers GUide at the top to ensure you make the right choice.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

A 9600 Pro will be faster than a non-ultra 5600 so the PowerColor is the better deal. However I don't know how good of a brand PowerColor is.

Thanks for the input guys..... they also have: Sapphire Radeon 9600Pro Atlantis 128MB DDR Video Card w/VO/DVI for about the same price......so i think i will go for that one then instead of the powercolor.

if you get the ati 9600 pro...please tell me if ya get system lockups while playing some games.

also, please tell me your motherboard that you are using.

tia :)

oh and get it and test it before tuesday..thats when i must return my 9600 pro or lose my money. thanks :)

Well i am probably gonna get it tomorrow if they have it in stock otherwise not till next week. My mobo is asus p4pe-bp. So if i get i will let you know.

Well, I have a Radeon 9600 Pro running in an AOPEN AK79D, and it runs excellently. No lockups whatsoever. What's giving you trouble???

nVidia cheated on me so I left her for ATi. ATi's hotter anyway...

I opted for the 5600 over the 9600, simply the price difference. After shopping around i got a 5600 ultra for about the same price as a 9600 non pro. I'd say i got this price because ATI are having better sales . Mind you i wasn't looking at big name brands i ended up with a x-micro. But it all came down to price for me because the performance difference is only minute at the end of the day.

If he doesn't die, he'll get help!!!

I have a built by ATI 9600 Pro running on a Epox 3vsa2 Apollo Pro 133T chipset (P3 Tulatin chipset). Havn't had any problems with my card. Been rock stable, and havn't had a complaint about it yet.

Running a BBA Radeon 9600 Pro on an Epox 8RDA+ absolutely flawlessly. However, when running dual monitors my main screen looks kinda stretched on bootup, if i switch resolutions and then switch back it fixes it. Thought that was kinda odd.

"Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my drive?"

Buy Radeon 9600 Pro, but not Sapphire. Get an BBA card or Saphire
