I'm posting this in a few forums, hoping one of them comes up with a solution.
Long and short is that whenever I load the system I have a 50/50 chance that the computer will load with the POST, enumeration and Windows loading screen having several lines running vertically across the screen, appearing like nothing more than ladders going up and down with the sides removed and only the steps showing. When this occurs, the computer will load up to the windows screen and crash on a black screen. Only once has the computer given an error message, going BSOD on the Windows screen with a reference to a memory error.
I downloaded memtest 1.70, ran it several times. With both sticks in test 5 and 6 fail consistently, testing each stick individually one seems to have no errors but the other consistently fails test 5 and 6.
Now, if the system loads up without the lines it is rock stable. No graphic, sound, system errors, and it will not crash. I've tried running several programs and games to test it too.
I did try running the stick that did not give any memory errors, and the system loaded 2 or 3 times without issue, then it had the lines again and I had to hit reset to get it to start up again without the lines to get it to load, and right now (I'm on it and have been for 3 hours) it's working fine again.
Nothing is overclocked, BIOS is running startup defaults.

System specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev. 3.3
Processor: Intel Core 2 E6600 2.4Ghz
Memory: 2GB TWIN2X2048-6400
Video Card # 1: eVGA Geforce 7950GT 512MB RAM
Hard Drive # 1: Samsung Spinpoint 500GB HD501LJ
Optical Drive # 1: LiteON DVD-ROM SHD-16S1S
Power Supply: Antec 500W Dual 12v rails
Case: Antech TX1050B
Sound Card: Onboard audio
Monitor: ViewSonic VX2025wm

Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

on two samples of the 965P-DS3 I have tried so far, boot problems have depended heavily on the Northbridge temperature, and on the specific host clock frequency and voltage selected.

There appeared to be regions in the temperature/frequency/voltage space which would not boot, or which were unlikely to boot--but then day-long operation in Windows was OK.

While I never saw the graphics artifacts you report, I did often see no graphics at all during failed boots, despite strong hints from the pattern of the HD light that most of a normal boot was proceeding.

I suggest you consider trying some 5 or 10% tweaks to CPU host frequency. More venturesomely, you might try to arrange Northbridge cooling, if only by leaning a spare fan in a place to do a bit of good. Of course the easiest way to get a cool boot is just to turn off the machine and let it sit with a side panel off for 15 minutes.

Good luck.

When I say load up the computer, I mean turn it on for the first time that day. If it's on and has been on, and I reset it, it works like a charm, the issue only seems present on first boot up. Cold boot I think it's called.

What brand and series of RAM?

When reading reviews on several of the paired sets of Ram, More often then not, 1 stick was crappy and and one was good.

Also I read some people have problems with the MICRON D-9 Chip

just a couple of thoughts.

problems with micron D9 chips? thats an old news my friend.

D9s are best overclockers. im using a pair of D9GKX runnning 1ghz 4-4-4-10 no problem here

Im having similar issues.
e6400
S3 and DS3
corsair CMX2-6400 5-5-5-12

i had the S3 MoBo with the F8 bios and everytime i would attempt to OC, the bios would reset on cold boot. when its listing all the checks on start up it usually only displays the "me " of the memory test and then restarts. ugh!

i figured the problem was with the S3 since i have seen inconsistencies with the OC performance.

now im on the DS3 with the f10 bios and im having the same issue.

im doing some test with the individual RAM modules but im at the point that i think it is simply the RAM that i have choosen. gigabyte seems to be inconsistent with its recommendations. one article with say only use 1.8v yet their qualified chart recommends the C4 which is 2.1v. so confusing.

What is more important. the voltage or the C4/C5?

both are important. If ur running at default clocks like 800mhz, u can try 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v or 5-5-5-15 @ 1.8v. More voltage increases the chance of getting higher memory clock speed or improved memory timings.

also, dont forget about the MCH/FSB voltage. if ur going past 420fsb, set it at least +0.2 at both MCH/FSB.

good luck.

thanks for the tips.

your set-up seems pretty ideal.
what brand is your ram? is it just micron?
no problemo. :)

yep. Both are OEM Micron sticks. :D and they are superb OC memory u can find around... the other one would be the D9GMH.
