I'm planning a new build and i have all the other components figured out with a certainty. i will be using a 4790k as more recent games are showing benefits from more cores and i plan to pair it with gtx 970's in 2x sli. but the question is 4gb or 8gb? I'm trying to figure out which balances with the gpu performance best as i don't want to get 8gb of vram and have frames below 30 fps in order to utilize more than 4gb (talking about future titles, obviously this won't be a problem now) i'm running 1080p now and will be for a little while but i'm upgrading to either 1440p or 4k shortly after this pc build. which do you think would balance better with the gpu performance?

SLI of 970 will give you a solid performance. Extra memory will benefit in higher res gaming. Since you are planning to upgrade to 4K What I feel is that 8GB versions will give you more potential. And yes. With the SLI setup that 8GB memory will not just be a waste.
