I have a GTX 970 and recently came into possession of a GTX 1050.

Would it be possible to run a computer with both of these cards inside at the same time? I do not need them to work together, ideally i'd like to use the GTX 1050 as a encoding GPU while running games on the 970, in theory allowing for recording/streaming with Nvenc encoding with no framerate hit.

So, to repeat, the GTX 1050 will not be used for SLI-enabled gaming, it will be used to record videos. Is this possible? As I know SLI between two non-identical cards can be shaky.

Solution
The 970 already has a dedicated HW encoder that can handle up to 4k/60hz (not sure about HDR though) meaning performance impact from encoding should be minimal. Don't see much advantage to using the 1050 as a dedicated encoder.
