Nvidia have said that sli between different cards is possible if one processes graphics and the other does physX. I currently have a Asus gtx 770 in my PC. I was considering getting another one to sli. I was wondering if it would be better to get a 970 instead as it a similar price to a 770 and has more memory, then leave the original 770 on physX.

Solution
You cannot sli with 970 and 770, in order to use one for physX, you leave the sli bridge off. So it will still be physx but no sli.

Get the gtx 970, 770 sli would be faster but you can come across lag and latency issues.

Just for clarification, using a second card as a dedicated PhysX processor is not an SLI configuration. As to your question, I'd probably sell the GTX770 to offset the cost of the GTX970, The GTX770 is a bit high-end to be using as just a PhysX processor.

Using one card for PhysX is not the same as SLI. In SLI, both cards work to render frames, while an auxiliary PhysX card will only calculate PhysX and it will not otherwise assist in rendering. Thus, if you get a 970, you would only really see a benefit on games that support PhysX, whereas getting a second 770 will give you an advantage in most big games today. I'd probably go for the 770, in this case.
