Question 970 EVO PLUS but no m.2 slot in my motherboard

Hi, I just bought a 970 evo plus ssd 500gb today and I just found out opening my tower that I do not have a m.2 slot.

My Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-H97M D3H

The reason I am posting this is because I heard you can put the 970 evo plus in a PCIE slot.

I don't know if I am able to have that option or just wont be able to install it unless I have a motherboard with the m.2 slot.

Also, I heard of M.2 Slot Adapters...If I do have to do that. Unless its just too much work then I can get a external ssd?

If you get an M.2 to PCIE adapter, you can do it.
