970 lag spikes

Today I upgraded to a GTX 970 from a 7950 and the performance is great, but every 2 mins or so I get a lag spike lasting 7-10 seconds that will drop me from solid 60 to about 15-20fps. Im going crazy trying to find a fix but have had no success. Ive seen a couple threads around mentioning the problem, but none have a solid answer, so I figured i may as well open up my own thread. PC specs: amd fx-8350, ASrock 970 extreme3 mobo, 16gb of gskill ram, a EVGA gtx 970 FTW, 240gb ssd, and a 1tb seagate HDD. Edit: dont tell me to OC the cpu, thats not the issue here

have you overclocked your CPU? You may want to try finding a suitable OC for that CPU to get the most out of your GPU.

No I havent, and im almost certain its not the cpu thats the issue here as my friend has an copy paste build of my pc and his doesnt have the issue, the only thing thats different for him is he has an ASUS 970 and an 8320
