Hello everyone,
I recently bought FX-8370 with wraith.
I'm a huge MSI fan, so i need to choose between thoose two boards:
- 970 GAMING (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/970-GAMING.html#hero-overview)
- 990FXA GAMING (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/990FXA-GAMING.html#hero-overview).
So which mobo is better for overclocking? (I'm planning to use BIOS and sometimes OC Genie 4 for overclocking my cpu).

Solution
the 990.

if you can return your cpu you would still be better going with an intel build over a amd right now. if not the 990 is a better chipset. if your going to overclock by more then lets say 200mhz your going to need a better CPU cooler
Agreed ^

In order to keep up with a modern skylake i5 you would need a high end 990 chipset board (because even more basic skylake boards have PCI 3.0 and DX 12), plus the cost of the cpu, and $100 water cooler.

So at the end of the day you are paying more to have a 4 year old platform that is almost but not quite as fast as the modern one (while using more power and heat in the process)
