Currently have a single GTX 680 wich is crying after I bought a ROG SWIFT PG278Q.
So wondering if 970 SLI is enough, or will i need 980 SLI?
The closer to 144hz the better, but ok as long as its not under 40fps.
Where i live 980 is about 66% more expensive than 970, also using M-ATX Motherboard so they will have no space between them.

Solution
The 980's will give you better performance of course, but I doubt either can push 144 fps at 1440p. The 970 sli setup is an extremely cost effective setup though. If you can spare the money, get the 980's, but if you're on a budget get the 970's

Are you serious?

One 980 won't put 144 frames at 1440p and why are you saying "Buy a new CPU for fps"? The only time that would apply is if his GPU was bottlenecked by his CPU but he didn't even mention what his CPU is.

I just imply that for high FPS like that (144Hz PG278Q) OP needs to think about CPU too.

PS. Anyway you seems to know that better than me, right? I just saw your rig :i7-4930k OC'ed to 4.5Ghz! wtf 😀

lol She's a fast one. Just updated my signature to include my three new GTX 980s and three new ASUS ROG Swifts 😀

omg! your rig is almost perfect! im kidding... it is perfect 😀

Tell me mate... Gigabyte G1 Gaming is as good as it seems? How good WINDFORCE 3X really is ?

Haha thanks! It's tough to say right now if the G1 Gaming in Triple Sli will work or not. All three of them barely fit and are all touching each other. While playing BF4 last night, the top card was at 80C with 100% fans while the other two stayed in the 60-63C range. At 100% fans, it's LOUD. In Skyrim, all of them were around 55C at 65% fans which was great.

The reason I say I don't know if it will work is this: my side panel has 9 120mm Cougar fans blowing directly on the GPUs. I don't have my side panel on because the PCIE power cables that came with my PSU stick out too far so I can't put the panel on. I ordered new low profile cables from Newegg and they should be here Monday. Once I install those and put the panel on, cooling should be much better. We'll see!

they are huge gpus for sure: you bought the best EATX mobo in business and still they barely fit! unbelievable!
Anyway you have an excelent case! You remove the pre-installed side 230mm Fan and put 9 x 120mm Cougar Fans, right?
Now you have i think +15 fans (!).

kudos mate!!

Yeah I was surprised that even with the ASUS RIVBE MOBO that they barely fit.

And yeah I took the preinstalled fan out and loaded the entire side panel with 9 120mm cougars. The new cables should come in tonight so I will install them and put the side panel on and see how things go. Crossing my fingers because I really don't want to return these beauties!
