Okay, so here lies my predicament. As it stands right now I can either get a 970 HOF (plan to overclock either option) for $250. Also because of that "insanely discounted" fiasco from last month I talked someone down to $300 for a 980 which is a price I don't plan to see for someone some time. No matter which route I go I plan to sli these, but obviously I will be able to with the 970s a whole lot sooner but both will be down the road a bit.

What do you guys this would be the better option? I don't care so much about 4k at the moment, though 1440p at 60+ sounds pretty nice. Will the 970s be future proofing me enough for upcoming games like fallout and star citizen, or should I look ahead and grab this 980 while I can?

If you are planning to SLI in the future the GTX 980 would be my choice.

980.The problem with the 970 is that is less futureproof, not because of the 3.5gb vram, but because you cant prevent it from accesing the slower 500mbs,thus getting problems such as tearing stuttering and lower fps.It would be a ton better if the 970 had 3.5gigs of Vram. The problem is that it is 3.5+05gigs.So to sum up since you can get the 980 for only 50$(you lucky bastard) then go for it!Happy gaming :)
