For someone like me, who has not reached a decision on the 9800 or 5900, this article was far too biased towards the ATI.

IF you haven't made a decision then how can you say it was biased towards ATI? Your knowledge base is obviously rather small. If you wonder why there is that much 'focus' on ATI it's an ATI card review. Duh! And if you look at the comments one card OWNs the other, then the other Gets the Crown, and Dominates another. Seems like it's evenly all over the map (perhaps with alot of even exageration too)

Want an FX focused review read THIS one.

I still think you'll be unsatisfied though as I doubt you really are undecided. More likely decided in a direction that the reviewers aren't complimenting. The reality is that almost ALL reviews will come out with the same conclusion, the cards are in the same ballpark. Price will be the biggest factor.

Personally I dislike Gigacube's products due to naming and performance/quality concerns. So I'd still say buy anything but Gigacube and Powercolor.

EDIT: HERE's Another review for ya that's NVFX-centric. Still come to the same conclusion (but the FX looks really good overclocked). Although I have to say they SUCK at overclocking the R9600PRo (472/303[606] I mean come on! 3mhz overclcock on the memory!!) in this review, but then again it may be because it's a CRAPPY GigaCube ONCE again!

- You need a licence to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp (or internet account) ! RED GREEN GA to SK
Edited by TheGreatGrapeApe on 07/15/03 08:57 AM.

Yes, my knowledge base is rather small. I don't know enough about 3D cards to make an informed buying decision. That's why I'm trying to do research before plunking down $500. I guess the topic of this thread threw me off a bit.

Thanks for the link. That was a good article on nVidia. It's kinda sad now that the top card makers are turning to "dirty politics" to try and get the top spot. The ones that suffer are me and you.

At this point I don't know who to believe. The ATI vs nVidia flames in forums are about as useful as Pro Choice debates.

Maybe I'll buy both, check out each one for a few days, and then return the one I'm least satified with.

Thanks again.

I think realistically in the end either card is definetly sufficent to run any game currently on the market and anyone would be happy with either. In any given test the difference is tiny until you get up to extremely high aa/af and then it's still not what I would consider signficant in alot of cases. I have seen a few screens where an ATi card looks better than an nVidia card rendering the same scene but for the most part in 99% of the shots I've seen I personally can't see any significant difference in appearances.

Just pick the company you like better, if you are getting a top end card like the 5900 Ultra or the 9800 Pro it's gonna last you a while and it's going to do all you need it to do.
