Hi all,
I have ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1 I've been rocking for the past 6 years. It is said to support PCIE nvme at the cost of PCI1_1/2 support. I purchased a Samsung 980 PRO Gen4 1TB nvme ssd. I was under the impression that the drive would work albeit at downgraded speeds.
The drive is not detected in either the BIOS or in Windows, despite having attempted the following and retrying after each attempted change:
  • Change setting to M.2 under Onboard Storage Config, according to user guide this enables the nvme2 slot.
    • This meant moving my wireless NIC to my PCIe#3 x16 which is running fine
  • Reflashed to the most current BIOS
  • Disabled CSM setting in BIOS
    • Change UEFI setting to Other OS
  • Checked Disk Management and performed LIST DISK but the nvme drive is not listed.
  • Samsung Magician software installed and attempted, no difference ofc.
  • Checked seating of nvme. it is secure and tightly in position with the screw. I admit this is my first physical install of nvme.
  • Disabled SATA drives
