I'm upgrading from a crappy GTX 960 2GB for more vram and longevity. Now i know some people have answered this question before here on this forum but i have a different situation. I can buy the 980 Ti for $399.99 US, or the 1070 for $429.99 US. (The shipping price is the same)

There about the same in performance so should i get the 980 Ti or get 3-5 more fps with the GTX 1070?

Solution
I enjoy my GTX 1070 but If I waited until now I could have just gotten a GTX 980 TI for $350 instead of paying $435. At 1440P I haven't found a real difference in game benchmarks.
Honestly there isn't a wrong choice at those prices.... Seems some minor bugs still in the 10xx cards but nvidia will iron them out. The 1070 performs a bit better but its more expensive. Depends what $30 means to you and what resolution/refresh rate you're at.

Well i don't really care about the power consumption. (Since i'm just 14, i don't have a house to look after.) And at times i might need to get more power for the efficiency rating of my psu. Besides, I have a 650w power supply and the GTX 980 TI is very power efficient then older cards.

I have a ultrawide monitor. (2560 x 1080. So I got half 1440p and half 1080p.) And the refresh rate is 60hz.

I'll go for 1070, i saw some benchmarks where the 1070 beat the 980Ti and even the titan x.

Here one of the benchmarks: http://www.pcgamer.com/geforce-gtx-1070-performance-preview/

my 2 cents:
I wouldn’t even waste money on the GTX 980 Ti or any of the GTX 900 Series. That entire line is dead, Thanks to AMD RX480.

Wait till the end of Aug 2016 and let see the 3rd party vendors’ specs on the RX480 & GTX 1060.

$400.00 could probably get you a killer high end version of either RX480 or GTX 1060.

Regarding the GTX 1070. Honesty, I feel a “sucker punch” coming soon from nVIDIA either with new release of the GTX 1090 or the new GTX 2000 Series.

$400 for a 480 or 1060? That's a bit much, also the 1070/1080 replaced the 980ti, not the rx480.

And seeing as to how the 1070/1080 just came out I don't see a GTX 2000 lineup any time soon.

the RX 480 cant even kill a gtx 970

the 980 ti is a full weight class beyond them

for 400 you should be looking at a sick custom 1070
