P4 2.6/800mhz/HT, asus p4s800, 1 gig (2x512) kingston 3200, Saphhire Radeon 9800 pro.

okay, heres the deal. On the SMARTGART tab of the video card options (control pannel) it has the options of None, 4x, and 8x. I've tried a bunch of things, whenever I restart, always reverts to None. I have fast write enabled in the bios, ive tried 4x and 8x in the bios, and 4x and 8x in the 9800 control pannel. Neither work, and I'm looking for some advice. Thanks!

Do you have the SiS chipset drivers installed?

And didjoo also destroy (ala detonator destroyer) the nvidia drivers before installing da card?

Did your 5200 work in anything other than "none"?

Hmm, Intel chipset drivers on an SiS chipset board...hmm.

It sounds like the chipset drivers (which came with the motherboard CD) aren't installed. Your AGP interface (on the motherboard) uses a driver.

hmmm..I don't really know. I have ASUS UPDATE, so...I THINK it should be updated. I never saw that on my 5200, but I didnt look.
"Do you have the Intel chipset drivers installed?" One word: Whaaaaaaat? why would I install Intel drivers for an Asus board? Thats like installing detanators for your radeon....

"And didjoo also destroy (ala detonator destroyer) the nvidia drivers before installing da card?"

I reinstalled windows

LMAO@U d00d, he made a mistake in thinking you had an Intel chipset, but you still need to load the SiS chipset drivers FOR your Asus motherboard. They came on the CD included with the motherboard. ATI also has some update for SiS chipset drivers built into their driver and installed automatically, but you'd have to have the motherboard's chipset drivers installed first.

Yes, I don't know why I assumed you had an Intel motherboard, force of habit I guess. Anyways, replace Intel with SiS in my post. :p

Without these chipset drivers, you will never get to use your computer's full potential. Chipset drivers are one of the most overlooked things out there, yet they are one of the most important for stability and performance.

Thanks for correcting me guys, I thought I seen him say Intel motherboard but really he's using a SiS based motherboard. Oh well, the advice still stands...

EDIT: To the original poster: ASUS puts the boards together, they don't make the components. Saying that you don't need to install Intel chipset drivers (really I meant SiS) on an ASUS motherboard is not true. All of ASUS's motherboards use chipsets from either Intel, AMD, VIA, SiS, etc, all of which need their drivers. All drivers you download from ASUS would be for these and separate components like onboard audio if applicable.
Edited by Rob01m on 02/11/04 01:58 AM.
