I'm building a new system. It will be a Shuttle SB61G2 V3 with the 865 chipset. I'm getting a 2.8E processor. My question is should I save some $$ and get a 9800 Pro or go for the X800 Pro. I play Battlefield Vietnam, UT2K4, and would like to try FarCry. I mean, would the 2.8E complement the X800 Pro or will the 9800 Pro do fine for a while? Also, should I get 512 MB RAM or 1 Gig? Thanks.

Save some money for what? The question is how much do you want to spend. In the case of Far Cry, both the x800 and 1gb of ram would be a big help, older titles would do fine with the 9800 Pro and 512. If you want to be more future-proof, get the x800 and 1gb.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too;)
Rachel:): why do we need money when we can just stay in our room and have sex all day?

I will answer you, but not for the GPU, for the CPU. If you get a mini-PC like the Shuttle you should get a P4C 2.8GHz not a P4E 2.8GHz. The P4E is running hotter, need more power and is slower than the P4C.

If you have the money get the X800, it will last you longer than the 9800PRO. And the X800 power requirement and size will not be a problem for your Shuttle MINI-PC.

And I agree that you should get 1Gig of RAM. You might even do some overclocking if you get good DDR466 RAM. Review od the Shuttle : http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDg3. I nthis review, they achieve 250MHz FSB. So you might expect this from your box too!

AnandTech offer great memory reviews/comparison and sometime it's better to buy good DDR433/DD466 instead of cheap DDR500.
