Hello everyone,

I recently installed a brand new ati 9800 pro card and i am having
problems with it.

With catalyst drivers 6.14.0010.6343 (those on the cd that came with
the card), each time i run a 3d game or 3dmark 2003 tests, the
computer instantly reboots. Yet, direct3d and direct draw tests (in
dxdiag) work.

With the latest catalyst drivers, direct3d doesn't work at all. dxdiag
says "Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the
driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer."

Anyone know what could cause the problem?

Thanks

Renaud

Specs are okay, though the PSU might be a bit inadequate, depending on the
brand. Did you upgrade your mainboard drivers to the most recent version? A
BIOS upgrade might also work miracles...

The PSU is Gold<something> i can't read it completely without
unscrewing it.

There is something strange that i found while testing. Each time i
start say 3dmark 2003 tests, i hear some glitches in the case just
before it reboots. Just like if there would be a bad connection.
Connectors seem ok. Anyone hear that in his case?

Suppose i disconnect the cd burner and 1 of my 2 HD, could i gain
enough power? at least for tests.

A low qaulity 300W PSU could very easily be your problem. Hard to say for
sure. Go ahead and remove any extraneous devices and see what happens. Do
you have any interesting logs in the event viewer?

Nothing in the event log. I'd say the computer just crashes too fast
to have anything in the event log.
