Hello. This is my first post in this forum, but i prolly wont be the last (if i can get some useful help that is) :)

At the moment im am the happy owner of a shuttle SN85G4V2, and im am having an Radeon 9800Pro GFX. The cooler is making noise as hell (im my oppinion), and therefore i want to know if the cooler from the XT is making less noise. As we all know, the space inside the the XPC is VERY limited, so the VGA Silencer is out of the question, unfortunately 🙁 . I hope i can get some help on this one.

PS. If anybody know a good silent single slot gfx cooler, plz tell me about it.

Depends on the board maker's HSF solution.

For th most part though the XT is louder. In fact the XT was the first that brought the Radeon and FXs lines close to each other in terms of noise (not the GF5800 but the FX5900/5950).

If noise is the problem you could try someone's HSF cooler that isn't a reference design. I'm not sure if asus' dual fan setup is louder or quieter.

Unfortunately since it's an SFF box, the Sapphire UltimateEdition built on the Zalman Passive cooler is out of the question if you want single slot operation. The Sapphire UE would be the quietest, but at a premium.

Check other coolers out there, but physically replacing the cooler with a larger HSF (area wise which has lower RPMs) yourself, maybe be the best solution. Alot of the retail solutions will be similar.

Ok thats also what i heard... its just wierd because both the heatsink and fan on the XT HSF is larger than the one on the pro (256mb edition). The number of alternatives is extremely limited. There is Vantec IceBerq but that one should be very noisy too, and then i cant remember the other ones.
